Bio

Larry T. Pretlow II is a Ward 8 resident who recently ran for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (8C-03) in 2010 and State Board of Education (Ward 8) in 2011. He is a professional Recording Artist and ASCAP Songwriter, known as LaPret.

Larry is a native Washingtonian. As a child he grew up in the River Terrace Community with both his parents and siblings. As a young adult he moved from home to Congress Heights where he currently resides. Larry's mother was a DC Public School teacher for nearly 23 years before retiring.

Larry is the former President of the DC chapter of the National Youth Rights Association and has publicly testified before the Council of the District of Columbia on behalf of DC youth issues.

Larry has also been a strong supporter of education reform. Like Mayor Vincent Gray and Councilmember Marion Barry, Larry believes in a strong and equally funded DC public charter school system. Like Council Chairman Kwame Brown, Larry supports educational options for parents and students and supports the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program. As a son of DCPS teacher, Larry understands and supports the need for DCPS reform and supports DC School Chancellor Kaya Henderson and the reforms she is trying to implement.


Larry currently attends Strayer University, earning his Bachelor's of Science degree in Information Systems with an emphasis in Web Development.
